Does football season really end anymore?
The day after the Super Bowl, which marks the end of the season for every fan, was just another day for the average football player. In fact, all over the world athletes are still playing.
For one team in imparticular, this weekend is one of the most important times of their season. The coaches will be choosing new athletes to represent their country after hundreds of videos from hopeful athletes around the country were uploaded to their virtual tryout on GMTM.
USA Football, which manages the Men's and Women's National Flag Football Team, has invited 8 athletes who submitted to their virtual tryout to attend in-person National Team Trials. The in-person tryout will be hosted this weekend at the United States Performance Center in Charlotte.
The Virtual tryout that USA Football hosted on GMTM included eight unique activities that will help U.S. National Team coaches evaluate athletes. Each activity includes video and questionnaire submissions, so coaches can get to know each athlete individually. Check out some of the athlete videos below to see how they did.
March 21 will be the date that USA Football announces the final 2023 National Team selections.
Here are the athletes invited to the 2023 USA Football National Team Trials:
Nyeisha Wright - Arlington, Texas
Nyeisha Wright is a 5-foot-6 wide receiver for the Arlington Impact, a Women's Professional Football Team in Arlington, Texas.
Angela Villareal - San Antonio, Texas
Angela Villareal is a former Division-I basketball player at University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley.
She also worked for the UTSA football program's strength and conditioning program while getting her Master's Degree in Kinesiology.
Randrea Gamble - Miramar, Florida
Randrea Gamble plays for the Ottawa University women's flag football team. She has been playing flag football since 8th grade, and has played just about every position on the field.
She currently attends Ottawa as a junior, where she was a member of the Women's Basketball team during her sophomore year.
Austin Conrad - Spring, Texas
Austin Conrad is a former Division I college football player and track sprinter at Rice University.
Conrad played Wide Receiver in college and has run a 10.9-second 100-meter dash.
Ahmad Scott - Dallas, Texas
Ahmad Scott is a former college football player at Hardin University in Arkansas. While playing in college, Scott was a running back and return specialist.
USA Football will be evaluating these athletes that were discovered through GMTM, along with many others, this weekend. There will be more opportunities for new athletes to get involved with USA Football throughout the year, so be sure to stay tuned for updates.
